Taking a shower, I felt time paused for a second. I smelled sea. Palawan. Sunset in a kayak with my family. What if we we can go back to a point in time and restart our life from there? Where will you go?
Will you relive a moment of victory? Your most fulfilling achievement? Or a moment of regret? To correct past mistakes. To whisper “I love you”..”I forgive you”..”I’m sorry”. To stop eating that big slice of tiramisu cake (Ninang?!?). Will it be a time of peaceful joy and contentment- the best vacation, a heartfelt hug, undeniable love.
What if the time you chose was now. And now is the new start of your life. What will you change? What will be the different choices you’ll make? “Not without knowledge of the future” you’ll say. But what about knowledge of what is right? To love, to hug, to go on vacation. To say “sorry”, “I forgive you”, “I love you.” To work hard for a long-planned dream project. To eat less 😬.
My eyes closed, I remember Palawan. What if I suddenly opened my eyes and find myself actually there. I have to paddle back to shore. Bathe my youngest. Fix and prepare stuff for my kids. Go back to Manila. Finish the work I left behind.. I just ruined my moment (!). I guess life always has to move. It cannot just be a series of picturesque clips. Back to bathing at home. Back to living the Now. It’s not so bad.
