(WARNING!!! SPOILER ALERT for Spider-Man: Far From Home!)
“Spider-Man: Far from home” is the best True to Life story that I have ever watched! (Wait what!?! It’s fiction Ninang!). Well “true to life” in terms of the insights that were running in my mind (Talk about Pondering Ninang!). In what I think is the best scene in the movie, Spider-Man misconstrues unreal to be real, attacks an enemy which turns out to be a wall, and repeatedly hurts himself reacting adversely to illusions and what he perceives, than what actually is. It reminded me of LIFE… and Lies.
Haven’t we suffered harm- physical, emotional, or mental- by things we believed to be true but are not. Relationships destroyed. Lives taken. Fear spread. Envy. Strife. Sadness. Pride. Wounds. Haven’t our joy been taken by thoughts in our head that make us doubt ourselves and other people including those we love… especially those who love us. Lies haunt our everyday lives. The enemy lies in our head. The enemy LIES in our head.

What is more true to life than having lies in our head that take away our joy and rob us of peace? Lies that say we are unworthy of love, devoid of beauty, not good enough, and will not amount to anything. That we need more. That situations and people are too hard, difficult, too complicated, and hopeless or not worth to be fixed. Or others are not good enough. That we are self-sufficient, too busy, too good to need God or others. As Mysterio creates illusions that worked against the strength, agility, and webbing skills of Spider-Man; the spiritual enemy plants lies in our head that weaken, slow down, and distract us from knowing the truth and accomplishing our purposes in life.
Hope of defeating the enemy starts with figuring out the truth. Once Spider-Man and MJ figured out that the Elementals are mere illusions, they knew Mysterio was beatable. With the assistance of Happy (the actual name of Iron Man’s bestfriend), sharing the truth with Fury and Hill (I’m not telling who they actually are), going after the drones than the illusion, and closing His eyes to ignore the illusions, Spider-Man defeated Beck, a.k.a. Mysterio. (Ninang spoiler alert!) Overcoming lies entail help from others, and belief, focus (ignore lies!), and resolve to win over the enemy.

The truth is you are loved and found worthy by a God who gave His life for you. That you can do anything with Him, and ask anything from Him In accordance with His good, pleasing and perfect will. That we need God and each other to live the full life that we were created for- loving God fully above all, and loving others as ourselves.
The enemy is that which has the propensity to destroy you and others. He lies. Your ally is that which promote, if not, create your good and the good of others. He shows the truth (Jesus is the only way, the truth, and the life Ninang!). The truth is what (or who!), makes you love, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. Discern and uphold truth behind enemy lies. Believe the truth alone.
Spider-Man, Far From Home, much like us when we are far from God. The only thing that can bring us back is to see the Truth behind enemy Lies. 🙂
