A NEW HOPE series Week 2 Resurrection Sunday
(Notes from the Preaching of Pastor Steve Murrell on Resurrection Sunday 2020)
Read Luke 24: 36-49
Thank you Pastor Steve for preaching the Word!
- We all face the reality of a Pandemic and a faith crisis. The fear, anxiety, disappointment, financial and spiritual crisis that COVID-19 brings are real and rock us to our core.
2. Two thousand years ago, before His resurrection, the death of Jesus brought a bigger crisis to His apostles and followers. The messiah has been crucified on a Roman cross. Fear, anxiety, disappointment, hopelessness, may have filled the disciples.
3. The resurrection of Jesus promised victory over these crises. Then and now, our Hope is in the Resurrected Christ.
4. Because Jesus is Risen, we can enjoy God’s presence.
“As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” (Luke 24:36)
Can you recognize Him in the midst of this crisis? Do you seek Him more than anything in the midst of what is happening now.
“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
5. Because Jesus is risen, we can take part in His purpose. God calls us to experience and preach repentance for the forgiveness of sins to others, and all nations.
“Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.” – Jesus to His apostles in Luke 24:46-47
6. Because Jesus is Risen, and as we believe, we can be clothed by the Power of the Holy Spirit.
“And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)
— Ninang believing notes
🙏Do you believe the Risen Lord and King, Jesus? Do you believe He died for you? Do you believe it is His sacrifice and not ours that can save us and give us eternal life. It is not your penance, but your repentance and faith that God asks of you that you may spend eternity with Him.
“because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” (Romans 10:9-10)
🙏 If you believe, please pray with me: Heavenly Father, I believe in Jesus. I am sorry for my sins. I repent of my sins. I am sorry for running away from you…for so long. I believe Jesus is Lord and Savior. I receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior. He paid the Penalty for my sins. I can never pay for my sins. For on my own, I am nothing. But thank you that in Jesus, I have everything I need. Help me live a life that’s honoring and pleasing to you. Help me Love you and others. Help me live a life of service to my fellow men that I may give glory to your name. Help me, by your Holy Spirit, preach the Good News of our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus, Amen.
🤓Dr. Luke’s account of the appearance of the Resurrected Christ to the apostles:
“As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate before them. Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
