LIGHTS.. CAMERA.. ACTION! (Showbiz Ninang!)
It’s showbusiness! Life is beginning to be now more than ever. After all we have social media to broadcast the highlights of our days. There are action stories of challenges and life lessons. There are comedies and funny anecdotes which brighten our day (except for comedy in the senate or congress hearings). And there are sad, distressing stories which break our hearts, and linger long after we’ve read them.
I hope we can choose which ones will be reality and which ones can be “cut” and redone. Can the moving stories of triumph be relived over and over again? Can the life lessons be remembered and applied always? Can clean humor be the default of most conversations? Can all discussions and arguments end up with heartwarming, funny, or uplifting quotes or quips?
Can the protagonist always win in the end? Can the “bida” dodge the hundreds of bullets fired at him? Will the dead rise again after the film stops rolling? When we are deep in debt, or wallowing in oppressive emotions and paranoid thoughts, can we just snap out of it (and probably laugh, like in the bloopers at the end of the movie) and start all over again?
Maybe it’s not bad to be “showbiz” after all. If it gives us a fresh start. Or if it keeps our sanity in the midst of the demands of this world– the lure of money, power, adoration, and perfection. Take a selfie. Post accomplishments. Say something funny. Quote something profound. Speak your mind. Write and utter a prayer. Let’s fill the virtual empty promise of this world with the reality of our connection. Showbusiness helps you to not feel alone.. well while in the limelight.
Then shift to reality. When social media brings unwanted comments (or No comments Ninang?) and little affirmation (drought of likes?), shift to reality. Say “cut”! Shift to the arms of your family and real friends who will give their lives for you. (Or the God who gave His life for us Ninang! “Our Lord and Savior Jesus!.. Yup!”). And realize, if not receive again, unconditional love and affirmation. Or just shift to the confines of your bathroom and sing.. and dance! Face the mirror.. “Bukas luluhod Ang mga tala!” Still showbusiness! (“No, I don’t do that”.. Ninaaangg???)
A teleserye, a noontime show, or a movie, in my opinion is only as good as its Concept-maker and Director. Who do you trust to direct your life? Who or what directs your life? Maybe the author of life itself is best to direct us (God Ninang!). Follow directions (read and listen to directions– bible, Godly people, Holy Spirit)!
Bad or good movie, it has to and will end. And I look forward (hopefully not in the near future though) to “hear” the “director” of my life finally say “And.. CUT! That’s a wrap! Good job!” And this, regardless of whether my life is going to be a blockbuster or not. 😋(Ready Ninang??? LIGHTS.. CAMERA.. ACTION!!)

“I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed– in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52)
